Restore Strength and Beauty to Damaged Teeth
Dental crowns are one of the most versatile and effective solutions for restoring damaged, weakened, or heavily filled teeth. At Maryborough Dental, we use advanced digital technology and our in-house laboratory capabilities to create custom crowns that look natural, feel comfortable, and last for years. Dr Shubha‘s comprehensive approach means she doesn’t just replace damaged teeth—she identifies why they broke in the first place, addressing root causes like bite issues or grinding habits to prevent future problems and ensure your crown investment lasts.
More Than Just Fixing Broken Teeth
What truly distinguishes Dr Shubha’s approach to crown treatment is her commitment to understanding why your tooth broke in the first place. Using her training in orthodontics, bite analysis, and comprehensive dentistry, she examines factors like jaw alignment, grinding habits, and structural issues that may have contributed to the damage. By addressing these root causes—not just covering the symptom—she prevents the frustrating cycle of repeated crown failures that some patients experience at other practices.
This comprehensive diagnostic process means your crown isn’t just a patch job; it’s part of a lasting solution that protects your oral health for years to come.
What Are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that completely covers a damaged tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are recommended when a tooth is too damaged for a filling but doesn’t need to be extracted. They’re ideal for teeth weakened by large fillings, cracked or broken teeth, teeth that have undergone root canal treatment, or severely worn teeth that need protection and reinforcement.
Modern crowns are crafted from high-quality materials that mimic the translucency and colour of natural teeth, making them virtually indistinguishable from your surrounding teeth. At Maryborough Dental, we use digital scanning technology instead of messy traditional impressions, making the process more comfortable whilst ensuring exceptional accuracy.
Same-Day Crowns When You Need Them
Life doesn’t always wait for convenient timing, and neither should your dental care. For patients who need urgent treatment—perhaps you’re travelling soon or require immediate restoration—we have CEREC capability that allows us to mill crowns right here in our practice. This means you can walk in with a damaged tooth and leave the same day with a beautiful, functional crown, eliminating the need for temporary crowns or multiple appointments.
For most cases, we use our digital scanner to capture precise measurements and send files electronically to our preferred laboratory, with your custom crown typically ready within one week. Our in-house prosthetic lab can also fabricate crowns when needed, giving us flexibility to meet your timeline.
The Crown Procedure: What to Expect
Your crown treatment begins with a thorough examination and discussion of your concerns and goals. Dr Shubha will explain why a crown is recommended and what the process involves. During your preparation appointment, the damaged tooth is carefully shaped to accommodate the crown, and we’ll use our digital scanner to capture detailed impressions—no gagging on messy putty required.
If you’re receiving a laboratory-fabricated crown, we’ll place a temporary crown to protect your tooth whilst your permanent crown is being created. Once your custom crown is ready, you’ll return for a fitting appointment where Dr Shubha ensures proper fit, bite, and appearance before permanently cementing it in place. With same-day CEREC crowns, this entire process happens in a single visit.

Caring for Your New Crown
With proper care, dental crowns can last 10 to 15 years or even longer. You’ll care for your crown just like your natural teeth—brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting us for routine checkups and cleans. Avoiding habits like chewing ice, opening packages with your teeth, or grinding (we can provide a nightguard if needed) helps protect your investment.
During your regular appointments, we’ll check your crown’s condition and the health of the underlying tooth and gum tissue, ensuring everything remains in excellent shape for years to come.
