Composite and porcelain veneers are a popular cosmetic dental treatment used to improve the aesthetics of a smile and protect the tooth’s surface from damage. They’re an ideal solution for a range of dental issues including teeth that are chipped, misaligned teeth, crooked uneven, discoloured or stained.
Dental veneers can not only improve the way your smile looks, but they can:
The two types of veneers we offer at Maryborough Dental include porcelain and composite veneers, both are made of different materials and offer different results. There are pros and cons to both types of veneers.
Porcelain veneers are a strong shell of porcelain that are made to fit over your tooth. Porcelain veneers are custom-made in a lab and therefore require a minimum of 2 visits for the procedure. An advantage of porcelain veneers compared to composite is their durability, strength, and color stability.
Composite veneers are made of a tooth coloured resin that is directly applied to the tooth’s surface. The resin covers up imperfections. The benefits of cosmetic veneers are that they are `cost-efficient and can be completed in one visit. However, they are not strong as porcelain veneers and may take up stains over a period.
